Five ̫ӳ students named “Emerging Artists”
Four ̫ӳ students and one recent alumnus have been named 2021 “Emerging Artists” by the Hattiesburg Arts Council. The program recognizes up-and-coming local artists during an annual exhibit and award ceremony.
"It's great to see emerging artists engage with the public during this event. There’s a diverse range of media and subject matter. It's a special time for young artists to meet each other and see each other's best efforts. We look forward to it each year,” said Chatham Kemp of the ̫ӳ Art Department.
The ̫ӳ artists honored this year were:
- Janna Lewis of Stonewall
- Sydney Myers of Hattiesburg
- Sage Pendergrass of Sumrall
- Jonathan Sims of Bassfield, 2020 alumnus
- Trinity Stewart of Ellisville
The 2021 Emerging Artist and High School Loft Exhibit was Nov. 13 at the Hattiesburg Art Council’s downtown gallery. In all, fewer than 30 Pine Belt artists were recognized as Emerging Artists. The exhibit also included the work of high school students from Presbyterian Christian School and six other local high schools – Oak Grove, Perry Central, Petal, Sacred Heart, South Jones, and Sumrall.
